The three zebra species
Most safari sightings are of the plains zebra, the widespread species of the savannas of East and Southern Africa. Grevy's zebra, larger with narrower stripes and big rounded ears, is a threatened species found mainly in the arid north of Kenya. The mountain zebra, with a distinctive dewlap and grid-like rump pattern, inhabits the rocky uplands of Namibia and South Africa.
