How to identify
Small green parrot with a dark brownish-black head, a broad yellow collar and breast, red bill, and a white eye-ring.
Habitat
Dry acacia savanna, woodland, and cultivated country in inland northern and central Tanzania
Diet
Grass and weed seeds, grain, and some fruit and buds
When it is active
Diurnal and gregarious, foraging in flocks and gathering at waterholes
Where it lives
Endemic to north-central Tanzania, with introduced populations in Kenya and other regions
How to spot it
Search inland Tanzanian savanna around Tarangire and central plains; flocks are noisy and gather at water in the morning

Photograph at waterholes with a telephoto lens; morning light brings out the contrast between the dark head and yellow collar
Threats
Generally common; localized trapping and habitat change occur but the population is stable
Similar species
Fischer's Lovebird has an orange-red face and olive nape rather than the dark head and clean yellow collar of this species.
