How to identify
Medium antelope with a yellowish to reddish-brown coat, white underparts, and a bare scent patch below the ear; males have short, forward-hooked horns.
Habitat
Moist grassland, floodplains, reedbeds, and the margins of marshes and rivers
Diet
Predominantly a grazer, feeding on fresh grasses and reeds near water
When it is active
Active mainly at dawn, dusk, and night; lies up in cover by day, freezing or bounding away when flushed
Where it lives
Widespread in the moist savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, including East African wetlands and floodplains
How to spot it
Look at floodplain grassland and marsh edges in the Serengeti, Masai Mara, and Ugandan parks at dawn, when reedbucks feed in the open

Photograph at first light when they stand in the open; a low angle across the grass isolates the animal against soft backgrounds
Threats
Habitat loss from wetland conversion and hunting affect local numbers, but the species remains widespread and of Least Concern
Similar species
Southern and Mountain Reedbucks are similar; the Bohor is told by its more yellowish coat and short, sharply forward-curved horns.
